The 1952 aerial photo

"Blue sky with clouds"

One summer day in 1952 a photographer flew over Byskov. The picture still carries the notes on which colours the colourist was to paint.

In the 1950s the Sylvest Jensen company flew over almost every farm in Denmark and sold the pictures to the owners, often hand-coloured. On this copy someone has written the colours straight onto the photograph for the colourist: blaa himmel m/skyer (blue sky with clouds), korn (grain), rød (red), grøn (green), gul kalksten (yellow limestone). You can make out the farmhouse with its flagpole, the big barn, and in the background Byskov with its pond and houses along the road.

Look for the notes: korn is written across the fields, rød and gul kalksten by the houses, and blaa himmel m/skyer across the sky. On the roofs, the wings of the farm are numbered.

Today Sylvest Jensen's aerial photos are held by the Royal Danish Library under the title Danmark set fra luften (Denmark seen from the air).
