Vægtergården
A four-winged farm in the middle of the village - horses in the stables, barrels for Shrovetide and three hundred years of history in the walls.
Welcome
The farm named after its watchmen
In the middle of Byskov, between the village pond and the old smithy, lies Vægtergården - "the Watchman's Farm". The barn was built of fieldstone in 1815, the farmhouse was completed in 1863, and for more than two hundred years the farm was home to a family simply called Vægter: Watchman. Then came the Suhr family, who lived here for 92 years from 1934.
Today the farm is a place for horses and their people - and, at Shrovetide, for anyone who wants to knock the cat out of the barrel in the old barn. Just like the old days, when the village gathered at Vægtergården for every celebration, and everyone brought their own picnic basket.

"Blue sky with clouds"
One summer day in 1952, a photographer from Sylvest Jensen's aerial photo company flew over Byskov. The company sold its pictures to the farms, often hand-coloured - and on this copy someone has written straight onto the photograph what the colourist should paint: blaa himmel m/skyer (blue sky with clouds), korn (grain), rød (red), gul kalksten (yellow limestone).
A small snapshot of a farm that already had a long history behind it.
God the Father keep us,
the great ones and the small!
His holy host of angels
raise ramparts round us all!
May He guard the village well!
Our house and home
are in His keep …
