The stable
Practical
Rules and practicalities for horses on DIY livery at Vægtergården - and how the stable app works.
What does DIY livery mean?
The horse owner has a stable and paddock and access to the facilities, but takes care of the day-to-day care themselves: feeding, mucking out, turning out and bringing in, and checking on the horse.
How often must the horse be checked?
The horse must be checked and fed every day. The law also requires at least 2 hours of exercise or turnout 5 days a week. Many share the turnout between them.
How big are the stables?
The stables meet the requirements of the Danish executive order on keeping horses: an area of at least (1.7 × wither height)² and a ceiling height of at least wither height + 75 cm. Horses may not be kept alone, so the horses have company in the paddock.
What are the requirements for the horses?
A valid horse passport with microchip, proof of vaccination and worming, third-party liability insurance and a signed livery agreement. There are no stallions in the stable.
Does the horse need to be insured?
Yes. As a horse owner you are required to have third-party liability insurance covering damage caused by the horse. It is often included in home contents insurance. Health and life insurance are also recommended.
Who handles the CHR (Central Husbandry Register) registration?
Vægtergården is registered as a horse holding. When a horse moves in, it is registered within 7 days using its passport or chip number, and the farm must also be told when the horse moves out.
Where can I ride?
Hannenov and Ovstrup forests are close by, with marked bridle paths of 7-15 km, jumping tracks and trailer parking. See riding in the area.
What if the horse falls ill?
The horse owner chooses their own vet and farrier, and always lets the farm know if the horse is unwell. Outside opening hours you can call the local emergency vet service (Lokaldyrlægevagten).
The stable app
What is the app used for?
For the everyday things: which horses are out and in, the feeding board, the horse's logbook, the shift plan, and shared posts, appointments and tasks. What you write in the app can be seen by the others in the stable straight away, so you don't have to call around to ask whether Bella has come in.
Who can log in?
Only the horse owners in the stable and the farm. When you move in with a horse, you receive an invitation by email and choose your own password. The app is available for iPhone. If you don't have an iPhone, you use the stable system in the browser on your phone or computer - it is the same content.
What notifications will I get?
You are notified when something happens with your horse: when someone else brings it in or out, writes in the logbook or changes the feeding, and when a paddock is closed. You are reminded of your shift the day before and again on the same day. Each kind of notification can be turned off, and you can set quiet hours so your phone stays calm at night. Only what is urgent gets through.
Who can see my details?
The horse's chip and passport number and private notes can only be seen by the owner and the farm. You decide yourself whether the others in the stable can see your phone number and email. You can delete your account in the app or on your profile. Read more in the privacy policy.
