Horses at Vægtergården
The stable
Vægtergården has a stable and paddocks for horses on DIY livery: each horse owner looks after their own horse, and the farm provides the facilities.
DIY livery
The stable is run on a DIY livery basis. This means that each horse owner takes care of their own horse day to day, while the farm provides the stable, paddock and facilities.
The farm provides
- A stable with water and light
- Paddock - summer grazing and winter turnout
- Space for your own hay, straw and feed
- A muck heap, which the farm empties
- Parking for car and horse trailer
- A short way to the marked bridle paths of Hannenov and Ovstrup forests
The horse owner is responsible for
- Daily feeding, turnout and checks
- Mucking out the stable
- Feed, hay and bedding
- Farrier, vaccinations, worming and vet
A calm stable atmosphere
The stable is small, and the emphasis is on a calm and helpful atmosphere where people look out for each other - and help out when someone is on holiday or ill. Many share the morning and evening turnout between them.
Horses have lived here for a long time
When Byskov's first reaper-binder ran across the fields of Vægtergården in 1915, it was horses that pulled it. The blacksmith's son worked the horse gin on the farm as a boy. There have been horses at Vægtergården for hundreds of years - now they are simply here for the pleasure of it.
The stable app
Everyday life in the stable is gathered in Vægtergården's own iPhone app and in the stable system here on the website. It is only for the horse owners and the farm, and you log in with an account that the farm sets up. There are no ads and no tracking.
- Today - who is on duty, which horses are out and in, and what needs doing.
- In and out - put a horse in the paddock or in the stable with one tap, or turn them all out at once.
- The feeding board - each horse's feed for morning, midday, evening and night, so whoever is on duty always knows what the horse should have.
- The logbook - notes and photos about the farrier, vet, worming, medication and everything else, gathered on the horse's profile.
- The shift plan - morning and evening shifts, open shifts you can take, and a reminder before your shift begins.
- Posts, calendar, tasks and manual - shared messages, appointments with the vet and farrier, checklists and the stable's rules in one place.
The app is built to be used with one hand in the stable, preferably with gloves on. If you have a horse in the stable, log in under Stable at the top of the page. Read more under practical. See pictures from the app.
